After 10 years, Glee is finally returning to our screens as Disney+ and Hulu have greenlit the reboot of Ryan Murphy‘s iconic musical dramedy series.
The show’s return was confirmed on Wednesday on the official Glee account with the caption “Currently gleeking out!”
The news follows the previous Entertainment Tonight interview with Murphy, where he confirmed he had written a pilot and shared he had “been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members,” adding, “It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”
The original series was created by Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan and aired for six seasons from 2009 on Fox. The show follows a group of misfit students who join the New Directions, a show choir taken over by Spanish teacher Will Schuester, with the jukebox musical showing the students as they find their voices amongst high school bullying, coming of age and the constant sabotage from cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester.

Whilst the returning cast has yet to be officially confirmed, there have been several hints about who could be back. Variety broke the news that Lea Michele will reprise her role as Rachel Berry, whilst Heather Morris teased that Brittany is “back for more”. Chord Overstreet also tweeted “Reunited and it feels so good”, and Kevin McHale responded to a tweet about Drake surpassing the Glee cast for the most Billboard hits of all time with “Challenge accepted”.
However, some of the original cast have previously spoken about how a return to the show could be complicated, with Chris Colfer opening up about how difficult it would be after the death of castmate and friend Naya Rivera, speaking to Bustle, saying, “It was a really tough show to do, and it would be really hard to do it now that Naya is gone. But I do know that Glee fans would probably come after me with pitchforks and jazz hands if I said no.”
Whilst there is much confirmed about the reboot, the news has taken the internet by storm, and whether it lives up to the original series or not, Gleeks around the world will be watching
