Vince Gilligan’s Pluribus finally started filming in Albuquerque on October 31st, but fans should temper expectations about how soon they will see the second season.
News about the show’s second season first came backstage at the Emmys, when Deadline reported that Gilligan had announced the first two episodes were written and the rest of the plot figured out. That was until now, when the show has started shooting nearly a whole year after the first season aired.
Don’t get too excited just yet, as it will be at least another year of waiting, as production of the show is mapped out for an intensive 225-day shoot, which will end in June 2027, meaning that, in the best-case scenario, the show will be released late 2027 or early 2028.

Although set in the same place as both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Pluribus is a change of pace from the drug crime thriller and tells the story of Carol (Rhea Seehorn), who finds herself isolated after an alien virus transforms the rest of humanity into a peaceful and content hive mind that seeks to assimilate her. The show was released to widespread critical success, earning six Emmy wins, including a writing win for Gilligan and a long-overdue first-ever win for Seehorn in best actress.
Seehorn will return as Carol alongside Karolina Wydra as Zosia and Carlos-Manuel Vesga as Manousos, and the story is expected to pick up directly from the major cliffhanger from season one.
Pluribus still stands as Apple TV’s most-watched show, and with such a long wait for the second season, it is in good stead to retain that title.
