Andrew Guest, showrunner and co-creator for Wonder Man, has taken to TikTok to discuss his views on the show’s surprise cancellation over the weekend.
The show has had a bit of a rollercoaster time since its initial announcement, with the show filmed and parked for a couple of years until its release in early 2026. At one point, there were questions about whether the show would even be released at all. When it was released, it did really well in the eyes of critics and fans, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen receiving a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for his performance in the lead role. The praise led to the show receiving a second season announcement in March of this year, but the sudden shift announcement over the weekend was that this was no longer the case.

Since then, fans and crew alike have been sharing their disappointment at the news, with Abdul-Mateen posting on socials that “That’s life, right?“. Guest then followed this up on his own page, telling fans, “I appreciate you all. I feel how you all feel, and I just want to clear up when I can here. This is not a marketing stunt. There is no movie in the works, and [Destin Daniel Cretton’s] schedule and no one’s schedule was an issue. Yahya, Destin, Sir Ben and I all loved making this show. All felt passionately about continuing to do it, and were eager to. Contracts were signed, schedules were cleared“. He went on to add that “the writers’ room was supposed to start this month. The production was supposed to begin early next year, and there was a decision made internally between Disney and Marvel that this didn’t make sense for them, even though a few months ago it did. And that’s essentially all I really know.“
