According to The Ankler, two previously announced TV projects, a Waller standalone series and a Wonder Woman prequel, are being put on hold at DC Studios.
This marks an interesting change for the studio, with doubts beginning to surface amongst fans about the vision James Gunn and Peter Safran have for the studio after the failed box office return for Supergirl ($126.3 million against a reported production budget of around $170 million). Reps for DC Studios declined to comment on the reports.
Waller would have seen Viola Davis return as the character she played in both David Ayer and Gunn’s Suicide Squad films. Paradise Lost, the Wonder Woman prequel, would have taken place on the island of Themyscira before the birth of Wonder Woman. Neither project was ever ordered to series.

Interestingly, the news comes not long after the Booster Gold show that Gunn and Safran announced as being in development was also confirmed to no longer move forward, as noted by series writer David Jenkins.
“My ‘Booster Gold’ won’t be moving forward,” Jenkins wrote on Threads. “Can’t improve on Mahershala’s lovely statement so I’ll just apply it here as well.” He then proceeded to repost a quote from Mahershala Ali, who recently told GQ that he’s moving on from Marvel’s Blade after it had been announced in 2019 but never went into production.
Since Gunn and Safran took over, DC have released Creature Commandos, an animated show which is returning for a second season, as well as The Penguin, which was set in the same universe as Pattinson’s Batman. Both were critically acclaimed, but it still feels unclear in the overall direction of the wider DC Universe despite previous announcements attempting to iron it out. Lanterns, starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, is about to release, and it will be fascinating to see if that makes the direction of the stories any clearer.
