There have been an array of conflicting reports around Meghan Markle’s potential return to acting over the last week.
After it was confirmed that she was moving back to the UK, reports began to break from Deadline Hollywood that she was in talks to potentially join the next season of The Gentleman on Netflix. The Guy Ritchie series, which importantly has not yet been officially renewed for Season 3, stars Theo James as an aristocratic soldier who inherits his late father’s massive estate, only to discover that it’s home to an underground cannabis empire.

However, according to Tina Brown, the former editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, that may no longer be the case. In a column published Saturday on Substack, Brown wrote, “I learned this morning that the casting of Meghan Markle in season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen has been withdrawn. The backlash in the UK was so intense, it became untenable to go forward. This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the UK.”
Markle is best known for her starring role as Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits, which she starred in from 2011 to 2018 for several seasons. After marrying Prince Harry in 2018, she largely stepped back from acting, although she is set to make a cameo as herself in the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends, with Brie Larson and Lily Collins. She’s also been seen in several docuseries from Netflix, including Harry & Meghan, Polo, and With Love, Meghan.
