Carrie will receive a second season at Amazon Prime, showrunner Mike Flanagan confirmed earlier today. “From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next”, he said in a joint statement with Carrie author, Stephen King.
King is also a producer on the series and has been vocal in his praise for Flanagan and his adaptation. He continued, “I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White. Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling”.
Flanagan said before the series debuted that he envisioned the story lasting around three seasons, but with the first series covering the entire novel (with some major changes), the series enters uncharted territory for its second season.

Summer H. Howell is set to return as Carrie, but no new or returning cast members have been confirmed yet for season 2. Not many of the first season’s key players survive the infamous prom massacre, but newly introduced characters Emmaline (Thalia Dudek) and Adelaide (Kate Siegel) will likely introduce Carrie to a wider world of people with extraordinary abilities.
Flanagan’s modernised adaptation diverged from past interpretations of Carrie in many ways, most notably by incorporating elements from the wider Stephen King universe. Dialogue and easter eggs in the first season alluded to connections to The Shining, its sequel Doctor Sleep (adapted by Flanagan into a feature film in 2019) and even King’s sprawling fantasy epic The Dark Tower, which Flanagan is also hoping to adapt in the near future. Without a full novel to adapt in season 2, it’s likely that Flanagan and King will continue to pull from the author’s loosely connected literary multiverse going forward.
Carrie premiered on Amazon Prime on October 7th and was met with generally positive reviews and presumably strong viewership for the streamer. No date has been set for the second season.
