Oded Fehr and Kevin J. O’Connor are set to reprise their roles from 1999’s The Mummy in the franchise’s next instalment, according to reports from Deadline.
Both actors first appeared all the way back to the original film, with Fehr also returning for 2001’s The Mummy Returns. O’Connor played Beni Gabor, the treacherous companion of Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) and eventual servant to the resurrected Imhotep, while Fehr played Ardeth Bay, leader of the secret warrior society sworn to protect Egypt from the franchise’s antagonist. They’re joined by Numan Acar, known for Young Sherlock, though it’s not yet clear who he’ll be playing.

The early 2000s films were massive hits and are widely credited with pushing Fraser into the mainstream. The series followed Rick O’Connell’s globe-trotting battles against ancient curses, Imhotep among them, one of Universal’s classic movie monsters dating back to the early 20th century. Plot details for this new film, the first since 2008, are being kept firmly under wraps. Fraser returns alongside Rachel Weisz and John Hannah, with Obsession‘s Michael Johnston already confirmed as a new addition to the cast.
Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing, working from a script by David Coggeshall (The Family Plan, Orphan: First Kill). Sean Daniel, a franchise mainstay, produces alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment, and Clayton Townsend, with Fraser and Hivemind’s Jason F. Brown also exec producing. Universal’s Jay Polidoro (EVP of Production Development) and Jacqueline Garell (Director of Production Development) will oversee the production.
The as-yet-untitled sequel is set for release on October 15th, 2027.
