In an Interview with Collider, Marvel Studios’ Brad Winterbaum revealed that X-Men 97 will release yearly going forward, which is hugely exciting news for fans of the show.
With the second season finale around the corner, many fans are wondering what’s next for the show, especially with a potential pivot for Marvel and its streaming product. Luckily, Winterbaum (Head of Streaming, Television and Animation for Marvel) has put those fears to bed, confirming that the highly acclaimed animated series will “come out next year and Season 4 the year after that“.
He continued, “Even a year feels too long. I remember watching these every single day after school, and then they would be on as reruns. I guess you could rewatch these episodes on streaming, because you can watch anything now.” It’s unclear at this stage what’s next after Season 4, but Winterbaum did try to reassure fans by telling Collider that “X-Men was a constant element of my life growing up, and I just want to make as many [seasons] as fast as possible for people to see.”

Since its release, many fans have discussed the differences between the show’s episodes and those of the original X-Men: The Animated Series it follows on from. This is another area that Winterbaum touched on, referencing the change in times from when the show first released. He told the outlet, “It’s a whole different business now, and streaming has its own limitations. Episode count is always a factor, and sometimes you have to decide, ‘Do you want a season to come out sooner or do you want more episodes?’ I tend to vote to get them out as soon as possible, even if you have to save some stories for subsequent seasons.”
It will be interesting to know where the Season 2 finale heads when it releases this week, with a brilliant season as always so far. The first two seasons are streaming on Disney+ now.
