According to Variety, Dave Bautista has officially been cast as Kratos in the Amazon Prime Video adaptation of God of War.
There were plenty of rumours floating around online earlier in the month about what was going to happen to the show after Ryan Hurst, who was announced as Kratos in January, suffered a torn bicep. After concern that this injury would delay production into 2027, Amazon and Sony (who co-produce) quickly decided to recast the part going forward. This is a decision that many felt was intriguing because Hurst had already filmed numerous scenes in the role. Sometimes recasting late into a shoot works out, though; just think of Back To The Future!

Prime Video has given the show a two-season order with the seasons set to shoot back-to-back. Most likely because of the younger lead opposite Kratos (Callum Vinson remains attached to play Atreus) and fears of him ageing out of the role between seasons. The series will follow the story of the two most recent video games on which the adaptation is based, in which Kratos must raise his ten-year-old son whilst battling gods of the Norse pantheon.
Additional cast members include Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as brothers Brok and Sindri, and Ed Skrein as Baldur. With Ronald D. Moore writing, executive producing and showrunning under his Tall Ship banner. Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes. Maril Davis of Tall Ship also exec produces alongside Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis serve as co-executive producers on the series. The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
