According to Variety, Dave Bautista (The Wrecking Crew) is in talks to join the upcoming Amazon Prime series, God of War, replacing the injured Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy).
The change in casting for the role comes after Hurst, who was cast in the role, suffered a torn bicep on the set of the series that would have allegedly delayed a return to production until 2027, forcing Amazon and Sony, who are producing the programme, to recast the part. The hope is that the production will be back up and running later this year. The show currently has a two-season order, with the series picking up the story from the two most recent games, in which Kratos must raise his ten-year-old son Atreus while battling gods of the Norse pantheon. The released logline for the show states that ‘Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.’

Callum Vinson currently remains attached to play Kratos’ son Atreus. The additional cast members include Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as brothers Brok and Sindri, and Ed Skrein as Baldur. Ronald D. Moore is on board as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner under his Tall Ship Productions banner. Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes. Maril Davis of Tall Ship executive produces alongside Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis serve as co-executive producers on the series.
Bautista, originally broke through to the mainstream as Batista in WWE, before going on to garner broader acclaim with his work as Drax in the Guardians Of The Galaxy Trilogy. Since then, he’s featured in the first two Dune films, as well as a series of different films for Amazon, such as the My Spy franchise. It will be interesting to see if this casting is confirmed and how he will do in the role. He looks right for the role on paper, but only time will tell how much he will suit the character once filming gets underway.
