Variety has reported that a How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days sequel is in the works at Paramount, with original star Kate Hudson producing.
The 2003 original followed magazine columnist Andie Anderson (Hudson) and advertising executive Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey). Andie, as part of research for an article about modern dating, seduces Benjamin and then purposefully acts like a girlfriend from hell. Whereas he’s bet his boss that he can make any woman fall for him, with Andie as the target. Donald Petrie directed the film, which also featured Kathryn Hahn, Adam Goldberg, Thomas Lennon, Michael Michele and Shalom Harlow. It grossed nearly $180 million worldwide on a reported $50 million budget and is widely considered one of the best rom-coms. McConaughey himself has even acknowledged recently that the film was an ‘anchor‘ in the genre.

There’s been a lot of returns to late 90s and early 2000s source material recently in Hollywood, with The Devil Wears Prada 2, Scary Movie, and Toy Story 5 all being successful returns to the beloved franchises. It doesn’t look likely to slow down either, with Practical Magic 2 and Focker-In-Law being released later this year.
Development on the sequel is currently in early stages, with cast and crew yet to be selected. There is hope that Hudson and McConaughey will reprise their roles. Stacey Sher is also on board to produce alongside Hudson through her Shiny Penny banner. Although, it’s currently unclear what the plot will be at this stage, as it’s widely believed that it will depend on the screenwriter.
