HBO has released the full trailer for its upcoming, highly anticipated adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which releases later this year.
The closer look, released to coincide with Back to Hogwarts Day, offers our first extended look at what Harry (Dominic McLaughlin) gets up to in his first year at the wizarding school, including his arrival and early interactions with the wider cast. He is joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, with the young actors appearing together in the latest adaptation of JK Rowling’s first Harry Potter novel.
The synopsis for the show, which I’m sure we all know at this point, reads “There is nothing special about Harry Potter – or so his Aunt Petunia tells him. But when a mysterious letter of admission to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry arrives, it opens the door to a hidden world of magic, friendship and adventure. Yet behind Hogwarts’ enchanted walls lie dark secrets. Harry must find the courage to prove himself against the darkest wizard of all.”
Outside of the leading trio, there is a really strong-looking cast made up of established actors, as well as lots of youngsters making their debuts. This includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Tristan Harland as Fred Weasley and Gabriel Harland as George Weasley.
The series will debut Christmas 2026 on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.
