Saturday Night Live has begun to reveal information about its upcoming 52nd season, with guest host announcements and writer exits hitting the news in the last 24 hours.

It has been confirmed that Jalen Brunson, the New York Knicks MVP from last season’s finals, will be hosting the season opener, alongside musical guest Katseye (who are currently on their Wildworld tour). He joins previous NBA stars Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan and LeBron James as basketball player hosts.

NBC has also other exciting host and musical guest combinations for the season, with Dakota Johnson being joined by Turnstile, Shane Gillis joined by Rosalía, and Inde Navarrette joined by Gracie Abrams. I’m particularly looking forward to the Navarrette and Abrams episode as it feels like a great combination to have for their Halloween episode.

They also revealed that Martin Herlihy will be departing the show after a five-season stint as a writer and performer. He is best known for being part of the Please Don’t Destroy comedy troupe alongside Ben Marshall (now a cast member) and John Higgins (who recently left the show too). The exit was first reported by LateNighter. Luckily, Please Don’t Destroy remain active as a trio, with the three continuing to perform live together even as they pursue solo projects.

Chloe Fineman is currently the only SNL cast member confirmed to be leaving the show, with news about the rest of the cast expected to be confirmed in the next week or so. With Saturday Night Live UK retaining their whole cast ahead of its Season 2 Premiere on Saturday, it will be interesting to see if there are many shake-ups for the original edition!
