According to Deadline, Wang is in negotiations to play Bobby Drake, aka Iceman, who was one of the founding X-Men in the comics. He first appeared in “The X-Men #1” in September 1963. When approached, Marvel reps were not available to comment, so it’s possible it doesn’t happen, but it promises to be an exciting casting if so. Wang would be joining a cast that includes Christopher Abbott is playing Professor Charles Xavier, with Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Star of Obsession Inde Navarrette is Rogue, Asa Germann is Angel and Maya Boyd is Storm, while Adam Driver is set to play the main villain, Mister Sinister. Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts) is directing the film from a script by his Beef collaborator Lee Sung Jin, as well as Joanna Calo.
Ben Wang has been on a bit of a hot run recently, with recent credits including Karate Kid: Legends, Disney+’s American Born Chinese and the SXSW comedy Brian from Will Ropp. He will next be seen in the highly anticipated The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, where he plays District 12 tribute Wyatt Callow, as well as the sixth and final season of Apple TV’s For All Mankind.
