Netflix has announced the expansion of its upcoming video game adaptation slate with Sega: Crazy Taxi, Sonic and Stranger Than Heaven.
The headline announcement is that Crazy Taxi, soon to have a new version in 2027, will be given the feature film treatment by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, the duo behind Naked Gun (the 2025 reboot). It will be produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara. The original game put players behind the wheel of a fearless cabbie as they raced through city streets. It’s been immensely popular for many years, and it will be interesting to see how they translate that premise to the big screen. My initial thought is that it won’t work very well, but I’ve been proved wrong a million times! Other announcements coming from the partnership include the original Sonic game becoming a new animated series (from Carlos Stevens and Nakahara) and Stranger Than Heaven becoming a live-action film set in early 20th-century Japan.
