Netflix has released the trailer for Wonka’s The Golden Ticket, an upcoming reality show based on Roald Dahl’s beloved story.

It’s the latest in reality show adaptations of a pre-existing IP from Netflix with Squid Game: The Challenge already proving incredibly popular with fans of the TV show. In a simlar vein to that show, The Golden Ticket puts contestants against each other in challenges taking place inside a replica of Roald Dahl’s iconic chocolate factory in order to win a “life-changing prize”. It even includes real Oompa Loompas and a AI version of Gene Wilder, for some reason.

By the looks of the trailer, there are games straight out of the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory book like a game involving lickable wallpaper and a massive “Wonkavision” set piece. It does look visually quite impressive, even if it is a bit weird listening to an AI version of Wilder as the invisible host. Fans have expressed their disapproval to this decision but his wife, Karen B. Wilder, said in a statement that they “are delighted that ‘Wonka’s The Golden Ticket’ celebrates the warmth and imagination that he brought to the role, introducing that magic to a new generation while honouring the fans who have cherished it for decades.”

The show was produced in Australia and boosted by a local tax incentive with only Australian citizens allowed to apply to be on the show. The production company is Eureka Productions, and executive producers include Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin, Rikkie Proost, David Tibballs, Alison Holloway and Emer Harkin.

The nine-episode show will stream on September 23rd.
