Ahead of the upcoming season of Slow Horses, Gary Oldman has claimed that “they made their choice” regarding the casting of James Bond.
The claim comes in an interview with Canada’s Global News, where he also backed his co-star Jack Lowden to play the character. Oldman said: “It’s been rumoured that he’s on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”

It was reported over the summer that auditions were taking place for James Bond with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, alongside Denis Villeneuve, informing talent who had been shortlisted. The names circulated at the time included those of Lowden, Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner, and Jacob Elordi. Fans have been wondering who is going to be in the role ever since Daniel Craig walked away from the franchise after No Time to Die. Personally, I think I’m still of the opinion that there’s no need for James Bond to come back any soon, but by the looks of the internet it appears I am in the minority!
It’s unclear from Oldman’s comments whether that implies Lowden is the one who’s been cast as Bond or whether he’s talking more generally. However, it is very good promotion for the upcoming season of Slow Horses, which debuts on the 16th of September. The Apple TV show follows a dysfunctional team of MI5 agents and their obnoxious boss, the notorious Jackson Lamb (Oldman), as they navigate the espionage world’s smoke and mirrors to defend England from sinister forces.
