Saturday Night Live UK has announced that Freddie Meredith is joining as a new cast member ahead of its Season 2 Premiere on Saturday.
Meredith recently won an award for best newcomer at the Edinburgh Fringe for his show “Need a Light“, which followed a self-appointed thought leader holding court in the smoking area of a club, unpacking masculinity, fame and the algorithm while soft launching himself to strangers.

He joins all 11 members of the inaugural cast who are confirmed to be returning, which isn’t always something that takes place in the original version of the show. Those cast members are: Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young.
As part of the exciting announcement, he was asked how he feels about joining the show, to which he said, “It’s a no-brainer; it’s the most iconic comedy show, and it looks like so much fun. It will undoubtedly inform everything I do for the rest of my career, and I can’t wait for the experience. It’s SNL!!!“
He then added how he got into sketch comedy, saying, “I trained at drama school and began working professionally in theatre. Over time, I found myself increasingly drawn to comedy and started doing stand‑up alongside my acting work, and that naturally led me into making short sketches online.“
Broadcast live each week, the series returns to our screens on the 12th September. Every episode will see a different celebrity host and musical guest, alongside topical sketches, live music performances and Weekend Update. The first confirmed host and musical guest are Jeff Goldblum and CMAT.
SNL UK returns to Sky and the streaming service NOW on the 12th September with the first six episodes, with additional shows planned in early 2027.
