Variety has confirmed that Stephen Graham (Adolescence) has officially joined the cast of the long-awaited sequel Heat 2.

He is rumoured to be playing a younger version of Neil McCauley, a character made famous by Robert De Niro. The first film followed McCauley as he chased one last score whilst detective Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) tried to stop him. Christian Bale is rumoured to be playing a younger version of Pacino’s role, with Leonardo DiCaprio on board as McCauley’s right-hand man, Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer in the original). The full story for the sequel is unconfirmed at this stage, but a book was published in 2022 which served as both a sequel and prequel to the original, and it’s likely to follow a similar plot. It’s also rumoured that Adam Driver and Odessa Young will be in the star-studded cast for the Amazon MGM project.

Michael Mann wrote the screenplay from his and Meg Gardiner’s best-selling novel. Producers on the project include Mann, Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ Jerry Bruckheimer, and UA’s Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt. Eric Roth and Shane Salerno are executive producing.

Stephen Graham appears to be a very busy man at the moment, with the actor, writer and producer currently in Venice for the premiere of Florian Zeller’s Bunker, in which he stars alongside Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem. He will soon be seen in the Apple TV series Nocturne, out in October. He was also behind both Netflix’s smash hit Adolescence and the Disney+ series A Thousand Blows through his Matriarch Productions.
