According to Variety, Dan Stevens has been cast in the lead role in Robocop, an upcoming TV series from Amazon Prime Video.
The character first appeared in 1987 with a film starring Peter Weller as the titular half-man, half-robot law enforcement officer. Weller then appeared in a sequel in 1990 before Robert Burke took over for the third film in 1993. A reboot starring Joel Kinnaman was released in 2014 as an attempt to breathe life into the franchise, to no avail. The franchise has also seen two animated and two live-action shows, as well as video games and comic books. It remains to be seen if the upcoming Stevens version will draw fans.
According to the official logline, the show will follow a giant tech conglomerate convincing the city to place a powerful robot onto its police force, a robot implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer (Stevens).

Peter Ocko serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett executive produce via Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Michael Miner and Ed Neumeier, co-creators and co-writers of the original Robocop film, also executive produce. Danielle Bozzone of Blumhouse Atomic Monster will co-executive produce and oversee the project for the company. Amazon MGM Studios is producing.
It was first announced in July by Prime Video, with the show being given an eight-episode order. The news comes after the project had been rumoured ever since Amazon acquired MGM back in 2022, with the company looking to take advantage of its newfound access to MGM’s deep IP library for film and television projects.
