Sources close to Deadline have revealed that Kit Connor, known for Heartstopper, is the leading choice to play Scott Summers (Cyclops) in the upcoming X-Men movie.
For those who don’t know, Summers is widely regarded as one of the cornerstones of the X-Men comics, with the character regularly seen as the captain of the team of Mutants. He’s best known for the powerful beams of energy emitted from his eyes that he controls through various eyewear. Interestingly, Summers is also regularly seen to be with Jean Grey, a character who has just appeared in the latest Spider-Man movie.

As part of preparation for the upcoming film, Director Jake Schreier and Marvel President Kevin Feige allegedly met with a number of candidates before settling on Connor last week. This process matches reports around the casting of Samara Weaving as Emma Frost that were revealed last week. Marvel and reps for Connor could not be reached for comment on the casting. The project has gained a lot of momentum since last spring when Schreier was announced as directing, followed by Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-creator Joanna Calo getting hired to pen the script.
Fans of the X-Men have been keen for a new movie ever since Disney first bought 20th Century Fox in 2019, instead having to rely on small cameos for their fix. The character has been played by two actors in the past. James Marsden portrayed him in three X-Men films in the 2000s and is already confirmed to reprise the role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Tye Sheridan played a younger version of the character in the 2010s.
The rest of the cast is still under wraps, though Marvel is expected to have more to share at D23 this August.
