On Thursday, it was announced that Grown Ups 3 was in production after a set photo was posted by Adam Sandler with the wider cast of the film.
“We missed you!” wrote Sandler on his Instagram with a set photo of himself at a restaurant table with co-stars Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, Bailee Madison, Deon Cole and Sandler’s wife Jackie Sandler. It was announced in May that a third film in the trilogy is in the works from Netflix, with Kyle Newacheck directing from a Sandler and Tim Herlihy script.

The original two movies revolve around a set of childhood friends coming back together as adults over the course of a summer vacation. They’ve got a bit of a mixed reputation amongst audiences, but this writer has lots of fond memories of them. They were both directed by Dennis Dugan and released theatrically by Sony’s Columbia Pictures. The first, released in the summer of 2010, grossed around $272M worldwide, with 2013’s sequel grossing around $247M. Sandler has been under a production deal with Netflix for over a decade, so it’s no major shock that the third film is being made for the platform.
Newacheck, who directs, has previously worked on Sandler projects including Happy Gilmore 2, one of the biggest streaming titles of last year and set a Nielsen record with 2.89B minutes viewed in its first week. Both Bailee Madison (Roommates) and Deon Cole (Michael) are new to the cast of the franchise, with the majority of others being returning cast members. Adam Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo, and Herlihy are producing, with Kevin Grady and Judit Maull exec producing.
