Alfonso Cuarón’s upcoming Apple TV project, Ascension, has added three new series regulars: Amanda Plummer, Christopher Chung and T’Nia Miller.
They join a cast led by the previously announced Caitríona Balfe and Bill Nighy. Balfe plays Rose, a recently divorced documentary filmmaker. She is brilliant at uncovering other people’s truths but struggles to resolve her own. When she begins a project on a mysterious cult called the Church of Ascension, she soon finds unexpected refuge in its teachings. That is, until she discovers something far more disturbing underneath. The series is inspired by Adam Nevill’s novel Last Days.

The news on the new series regulars comes from Variety, which also reports that details about the characters are being kept under wraps. It’s an exciting cast so far though, with Miller currently appearing in VisionQuest and Chung often receiving huge praise for his role in Slow Horses.
Behind the camera, Cuarón co-writes the show with his brother Carlos, Natalie Erika James and Christian White. All four are also executive producers. James and White are co-showrunning, with James lead directing. Baife also executive produces. Cuarón’s Esperanto Filmoj has an overall TV deal with Apple, which is creating the show, with Anonymous Content producing.
It should be another exciting show for the streaming service, which is on a bit of a home run of shows. They recently did incredibly well at the Emmys, becoming the second time in 20 years that a platform besides HBO Max or Netflix has led.
No premiere date has been announced so far.
