The original film, based on the book World War Z: An Oral History Of The Zombie War, follows former United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt) in a race against time to stop a zombie pandemic. It made more than $540 million at the global box office, before numerous people have attempted sequels to no avail.
News of the sequel comes during Pitt’s press tour for his latest release, Heart Of The Beast, which releases this week. It is a survival thriller that follows a Special Forces officer and his combat dog who, after a devastating plane crash, get stranded deep in the Alaskan wilderness. It’s directed by David Ayer. He will also soon be seen once again reprising his Oscar-winning role in The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. That film will be directed by David Fincher, with original mastermind Quentin Tarantino writing the screenplay.
