Last night, Deadline reported that Noah Jupe (Hamnet) will be joining the cast of Avengers: Secret Wars in a secret role.

The film is due to go into production later in the year, with Anthony and Joe Russo returning to direct. At this stage, Marvel has given no comment on Jupe joining the cast, nor have they given any official announcements about the decision. It’s unlikely that anything will be confirmed before the events of Avengers: Doomsday, which releases later this year.

Jupe most recently appeared on stage in Romeo & Juliet alongside Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day). He can soon be seen in Play Dead, from Jaume Collet-Serra, as well as A Quiet Place Part 3. It’s widely believed that he will be playing an older version of Franklin Richards, who appeared as a baby in Fantastic Four: First Steps. Fans have even noticed that he’s watched the film three times according to his Letterboxd. Other speculation around his role includes Iceman, made famous by Shawn Ashmore, or a younger alternative Tony Stark.

Secret War is a direct sequel to Avengers: Doomsday, which follows the Avengers as they join forces with the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts and Earth’s other mightiest superheroes to save the multiverse from the evil Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr). It is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, especially after the huge Box Office success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Avengers: Secret Wars is due to be released in cinemas on December 17th next year.
