We’re beginning to hear more information about Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling, with lucky attendees at D23 even getting to see some sneak peek footage!
It will be the first follow-up to The Rise of Skywalker, which makes a change to a lot of other recent products from the franchise that have often linked to the original canon stories. It is set five years after the latest trilogy, with there also being a possibility that beloved characters from other pieces of Star Wars media may appear. Although it is being billed as a fully standalone story.

“Our movie comes out May 2027. I’m honoured that we’re releasing our film on the same weekend that the original ‘Star Wars’ came out exactly 50 years earlier,” said Director Shawn Levy. “‘Starfighter’ embodies the themes of hope and family that have always been core to [these films]. It takes place in a period of time that’s never been shown in a Star Wars adventure“. Levy also wrote the movie alongside Jonathan Tropper.
Levy and Gosling appeared at Disney’s D23 on Friday night to preview the film. According to reports from people there, the short teaser shows Gosling’s pilot character Kade Auberon finding a young man playing with a starfighter jet that’s decommissioned but was known as the fastest ever built. The cast also includes Flynn Gray, who first appeared in a first-look photo of himself and Gosling in character, shooting in the Mediterranean Sea. Fellow cast members include Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings and Amy Adams.
