We finally saw the return of Ted Lasso to our screens this week, and people came to watch it on their drones.
According to measurements by Nielsen, the long-awaited Season 4 premiere pulled in 296.6 million minutes over the course of its opening weekend. This makes the episode the biggest launch in the history of Apple TV, beating all the previous seasons of the show alongside other massive hits such as Severance and Pluribus. They are also reporting that it was actually the most-streamed TV show in the whole of the U.S on the 5th August which is an incredible feat. There were a lot of nerves going into the show, with many unsure if it was going to be a worthwhile comeback, but it appears many still wanted to see Lasso and his positive ways once more.

Set three years after the last season, Season 4 sees Ted (Jason Sudeikis) return to Richmond to take on the challenge of coaching a second-division women’s football team. A lot of the stars of the original show have returned, including Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift. With Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely all joining the cast. The show is executive produced by Sudeikis, Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, Bill Wrubel, Jack Burditt, Brett Goldstein, Leann Bowen, Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. The story was developed by Sudeikis, Lawrence, Kelly and Hunt based on IP from NBC Sports.
Season four will run for 10 episodes, opening with a single premiere before moving to a weekly release. It follows season three’s ending, which saw several character arcs reach apparent conclusions, including Ted’s departure from Richmond back to Kansas. It was widely believed at the time that the show would end, until a change of heart by the team behind it led to the renewal of a fourth season. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out, with critics who have seen the whole show feeling fairly mixed on its return!
Season 4 premieres Wednesday, 5 August 2026, with new episodes weekly through 7 October 2026.
