Amazon MGM have released the official trailer for the highly anticipated sports biopic Madden, starring Nicolas Cage.
The story follows John Madden‘s journey from being a Super Bowl-winning coach with Al Davis and the Raiders to creating the iconic Madden NFL game and becoming one of the most recognisable names in sports history. It stars Nicolas Cage in the titular role alongside Christian Bale (Al Davis), Kathryn Hahn (Madden’s wife), as well as Sienna Miller, John Mulaney and Shane Gillis.
John Madden first became well known amongst sports fans for his role as Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders in the 1970s, where he won their first Super Bowl. He eventually retired from coaching in 1979 before becoming a colour commentator covering football for the next three decades. He sadly passed away at the age of 85 in December 2021.

It’s directed by David O. Russell, in his first film since Amsterdam in 2022, which also featured Bale. He also directed films such as Joy, American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook and The Fighter. Over the course of his career, he has received five Academy Award nominations, which means hopefully we should be in for a good film!
Personally, I’m really looking forward to seeing how Cage does in the role. He’s been on a bit of an exciting career turn recently, receiving huge plaudits for his role in Spider-Noir and Longlegs. It also promises to be an interesting story, with Madden’s impact on the wider game being unmatched, especially with how successful the video game franchise became over the years that followed its initial release.
The film will be released in select cinemas on November 11th before being available to stream globally on Prime Video on November 18th.
